1. Basic Toor Dal
Toor Dal/Arhar – 1 cup Water – 2 cups Salt to taste Ginger – 2 tsp (diced) Ghee/Clarified butter Turmeric – ½ tsp Chilli powder – a pinch
Method of Preparation
Wash dal with water several times till the water appears clear. Soak the dal in water for 20 minutes.
In a pressure cooker, add the dal and water. Add turmeric, salt and ginger. Close the pressure cooker and put it on medium heat.
The dal will start steaming and once it whistles thrice, turn off the heat. In a kadai/pan, add clarified butter/ghee and some ginger. Add a pinch of red chilli powder and pour the boiled dal.
You can add mustard seeds and cumin seeds for the chokha.
This is another toor dal recipe that you must try. All you need to do is add chopped tomatoes and coriander in the dal. You can add a tsp of garam masala in the lentil to give it a kick!
